Ritual by Annabel - update
Using the samplers in the museum as inspiration, I've been creating a number of Momento Mori pieces which reflect the prayers so carefully stitched on them by such young hands.
Number 3 in the series is called Ritual, and is based on responses to death in rituals and beliefs across many different cultures. These rituals are concerned with explanation, validation and integrations into other peoples views.
The Quilt follows practices and symbols across many layers of history. There is much to do, but the elements have been pieced together, and I have begun the initial work on the chains, hands, insets, and have begun to add the images of various and significant objects. I'm currently working on ancient China (bronze vessels) and Egypt (Sacred Ibis). Stay tuned for another update soon.
